For sale here is a prototype 897-2 s/s, 8'9" 2-piece /1-tip 7wt from the bench of Per Brandin. Excellent+ condition, simply marked "HB Proto 06" on the butt. Also marked as a "P" rod, indicating a parabolic action. This 6-strip rod features darkly flamed cane with oxidized snake guides and red agate stripping guide wrapped in transparent brown windings. Micro ferrules fit perfectly, and the female is fitted with a non-original ferrule plug. Both sections are full length and straight as a pin. 6.25" cork grip is clean & smooth. Cap & ring reel seat over mahogany spacer. The knurled aluminum butt cap removes to accept a Delrin fighting butt. Scripted & actual weight is 4 1/4oz (4.58oz with the fighting butt attached). Medium fast action. Slightly parabolic character, but not overly so. This model was designed for dry fly summer steelhead. The standard 897-2 is Per's preferred taper for salmon & steelhead. Sold in the original bag and tube with non-original canvas tube protector.
