Hardy - The Field 3 7/8" Fly Reel

For sale here is a Hardy "The Field" 3 7/8" fly reel in very good original condition. Aluminum construction with brass spool, pillars & spindle. Smooth brass foot is full length (3 3/4"). Ivorine handle with brass receiver cup. The winding plate is marked "The Field" and the back of the reel retains the early Hardy Bro's stamp & Rod in Hand logo. Mechanically tight with a pleasant click & pawl action. Bias is RHW. Weight is 13.85oz. The Field was an early plate-wind pattern from Hardy, and was produced for ~13 years in the late 1800's/early 1900's. Always outshined by its cousin the Hardy Perfect, The Field reels never enjoyed the same cachet or popularity but did offer an early exposed rim design. This is a fine example, ready to pair with your favorite vintage salmon rod (but be sure to check the foot length!).
