Winston, R.L. - 8'6" 2/2, 4 1/2oz (6wt) Bamboo Fly Rod

For sale here is a San Francisco-era Winston 8'6" 2-piece / 2-tip 6wt bamboo rod. 4 1/2oz scripted and actual weight. Featuring medium tempered cane with bright guides wrapped in putty colored windings with oxblood accents. Bakelite winding check and reel seat spacer and up-locking aluminum reel seat. The 6" modified full wells grip shows moderate soiling and marring at the top where it was used as a hook keeper (the original hook keeper is missing it's flap ring). All sections are straight and full length, and the Duronz ferrules fit perfectly. The butt section and one tip bear serial # 9344. The other tip has an invisible wrap in the middle and has the serial #9382. Winston has confirmed that both serial numbers were made on the same taper and were made in the spring of 1967, however, how the lone tip was matched with this rod remains a mystery. Serial numbers notwithstanding, the rod is priced as a single-tipper. The action is on the faster side of medium fast, a fine rod for larger dry flies or light streamers and nymphing work. The rod comes from the family of Colin Pittendrigh and this particular rod was given a nod in Schwiebert's "Nymphs" as one of the author's favorites (page 37). A nice SF Winston 6wt with a bit of history to boot. Sold in the original bag and cal-air tube (sans label).
