For sale here is an early contracted Hardy Perfect 3 1/8" reel with 1896 checkwork. Excellent condition throughout, this reel features full length smooth brass foot, 4-cusp spool with nickel silver retaining screw, strap over tensioner, and ivorine handle with milled brass receiver cup. The winding plate has the straight line logo and open oval logo, and has matching "3" stamps throughout. The rim mounted tensioner works flawlessly and goes from least resistance to most in a mere 2.5 turns of the screw. 1896 check work with flat caliper spring. The gear wheel teeth remain quite sharp, and the the reel is mechanically tight with no wobble or end play. The original leaded finish has worn to a silvery gray patina. A very nice example of the 1896 check on a 3 1/8" reel, ready to fish or collect.
