For sale here is an early Orvis impregnated "Bakelite" bamboo rod in very good original condition. 7'6" 3-piece / 2-tips, 4 1/8oz, best with a 5wt. Serial #5689, made in 1948. The rod features medium tempered & impregnated cane with oxidized snake guides wrapped in dark brown windings. 15/64 & 10/64 ferrules fit perfectly. All section are full length and serialized, with slight sets to the mid and one tip. The butt section reads "Orvis Impregnated - Pat Pend.". U-shaped hook keeper, nickel silver winding check and 6.5" cork grip. Down-locking aluminum reel seat over black composite spacer. A medium-fast action 5wt, and a very nice example of the early Orvis impregnated rods (Bakelite refers to the resin used in the impregnation process). Sold in the original olive bag and Peerless aluminum tube, sans label. From the collection of Thomas H. Clark.
