For sale here is an early 6'6" 2/2 Orvis Battenkill Deluxe, impregnated bamboo rod. Very good original condition, serial #13892, made in 1953. Nicely flamed cane with oxidized snake guides and transparent caramel windings. 11/64 ferrules fit perfectly, and each section is straight, full length & serialized (#13892). Diminutive 3 3/4" grip is soiled with just a hint of ridging, and the rod is fitted with the early wood reel seat & dual slide bands. The wood shows some marring where the reel foot attaches, but nothing that requires attention. Weight is just over 2oz, which is correct according to the 1953 Orvis catalog. Medium fast action, rated for a DT5 or WF6 (better with a 5wt). A nice early example of the impregnated Orvis Deluxe, sold in the original red fold over bag and black aluminum tube with just a small piece of the original label remaining.
