For sale here is an 8'3" 2/2 7wt custom PHY rod, made for Don McClouth in 1953. Med/dark flamed cane with bright guides and Perfections stripping guide, wrapped in copper gold wraps. All sections are straight and full length, and the Super-Z ferrules fit perfectly. The varnish is in good shape throughout. 6.5" cork grip with dual thumb reliefs. The cork is lightly soiled with two notable rough areas of extensive ridging/wear around the thumb reliefs. Black down-locking reel seat over cork spacer and nickel silver butt cap (stamped with the PHY roll stamp in cartouche). The fighting butt is removable and has been shortened from the original. The butt section is scripted in Paul Young's handwriting: Don McClouth Detroit May '53 - 8'3" 5.13oz HCH-HCF - Bamboo wt 3.36oz Fer. 15/64 Tip Top 5/64. Actual weight with fighting butt attached is 5.75oz. Strong parabolic action, Bob Summers likened the action to the Boat Rod. Per Brandin fished this rod for Atlantic Salmon in Canada and prefers it with a WF7. The rod is sold in the original "bomber tube" and rod bag. From the collection of Per G. Brandin.
