For sale here is a beautifully restored Payne 102H, 8' 2/2, 5-6wt bamboo rod in excellent condition. Medium tempered cane with lightly oxidized guides and carbide stripping guide. Wraps are dark chestnut with gold tipping and claret accents. 14/64 ferrules fit perfectly, and the ferrule plug is intact. The sections are full length, and one tip has the slightest of fish fighting sets. 5.75" cork grip is clean and lightly ridged. Down-locking reel seat over Spanish cedar spacer, and the rod features the scarce and highly desirable "acorn" butt cap. The Payne stamp remains clear and crisp on the reel seat. Weight is 4.62oz. A strong, progressive action rod with medium fast action. It will cast a variety of 5 or 6wt lines, but I prefer a WF5. This is an older restoration, clearly done by a talented individual who was familiar with Jim Payne's work. The rod appears to have seen little use since the restoration was completed and is ready to hit the water. The 102H is a scarce taper, and this rod packs into the original bag with hangtag and brass capped tube with re-affixed blue & silver label.
