For sale here is an E.C. Powell 8'6" 3/2 B-taper, semi-hollow bamboo rod in excellent used condition. Medium tempered cane with bright guides and red agate stripping guide wrapped in bronze-gold windings. All the wraps are original except the butt-mid ferrule looks like it was reset & rewrapped. All sections are straight, full length and free of repairs. Bright ferrules fit perfectly, and the welts are witness marked for ease of alignment. Patent numbers and black/white wrap at the hook keeper indicated semi-hollow cedar core construction. 6.5" cork grip is smooth with light soiling, and the rod is fitted with the standard Powell reel seat with Bakelite spacer and Marysville, CA stamp. Weight is 4.44oz. One condition note: one of the tips tapers more sharply than the other in the final 5" below the tip top. There is a small glue line on one flat, and it looks like there was a small splinter that split off this one tip strip prior to glue-up. I see no evidence of repair, and I am quite certain the rod was made this way. The tip seems structurally sound, but it's worth noting. In my estimation an invisible wrap is justifiable, just to be safe, but that will be a decision for a future custodian of this rod. Medium fast action, it feels like a heavy 5wt/light 6wt. A very nice Powell trout rod, the tip issue notwithstanding. Sold in the original olive bag and brass capped tube.
