For sale here is an exceedingly rare Harold "Pinky" Gillum 7' 2-pc / 2-tip bamboo rod in excellent condition. Serial #537, which predates the switch to resorcinol glue. Medium tempered cane with oxidized snake guides and perfection stripping guide, all wrapped in deep bronze windings with gold tipping. All sections are straight, full length and serialized. 11/64 step-down ferrules fit perfectly, and are witness marked for ease of alignment. The slightly swelled butt is adorned with 5 signature wraps leading into the script "H.S. Gillum - Custom Built". The rod is fitted with a strap and ring hook keeper, oxidized nickel silver winding check, knurled aluminum cork check and cap & ring reel seat over cork spacer. The 5" grip received a light cleaning at some point and the cork spacer shows some faint mounting marks. The reel seat hardware was reblued by Dana Gray. The rod has a few small checks in the varnish, none of which penetrate the cane. The only condition note I have is some slight varnish loss to the wraps on one side of the stripping guide. It's worth noting but does not need to be addressed. The weight is 2.85oz and the action is on the faster side of medium fast. A very light and nimble 4wt. The rod comes packaged in the original bag and tube with Gillum label (fair condition). Short Gillum trout rods are rather scarce, and to find one in such good original condition is almost unheard of. A worthy addition to any collection.
