Gillum, H.S. - 8'6" 3/2 6wt Bamboo Rod - Owned by Elsie Darbee

For sale here is an H.S. Gillum 8'6" 3/2 6wt bamboo rod, made for Elsie Darbee. Excellent+ original condition. Medium tempered cane with Resorcinol glue lines. Oxidized snake guides and Perfection stripper, all wrapped in dark gold windings with black & white accents. Two wraps are broken where the guide foot meets the cane at the top of the butt section. All sections are straight, full length & serialized (I-727). Tips are marked for ease of rotation. Super-Z ferrules fit perfectly, and the bluing shows almost no signs of wear. Strap & ring hook keeper with blued NS winding check. 6.5" cork grip is clean with the faintest hints of natural ridging. Up-locking aluminum reel seat over African Mahogany spacer. The 'H.S. Gillum - Maker' stamp is clean and crisp on the collar. Weight is just under 5oz. A powerful 6wt, I like it with a long belly WF6, although I think it will also like the heaviest WF5's as well. On the faster side of medium fast, but the rod has got some soul! There are minor signs that the rod was fished, but it obviously never saw heavy rotation. The letter of provenance from Harry Darbee says as much; it was a little too stiff for Elsie and thus she didn't use it much. In the interim, the rod was very well cared for. Sold in the original bag and what appears to be the original tube with no label.
